JAMES KENNEDY - VAGABOND: Vagabond is described as a traveler that weaves tales. In many ways, James Kennedy fits that description in a positive way. He has wandered from various musical styling and traditions on his varied dozen releases. Kennedy is a singer, composer and guitarist. He is a prolific award-winning musician who tours regularly in the United States and Europe. James melds classic rock, jazz, swing, fusion and bossa nova into his diverse musical journey. Vagabond is a mostly instrumental voyage. James is joined by Catherine Lawson on electric violin and Matt Alles on bass. Joe Patterson and Masahiro Iwasaki share the responsibility of drums and percussion. Each of the eight tracks on Vagabond is rich and textured and flows smoothly from one mood to the next. I enjoyed the CD as a whole expedition and in particular the lush instrumentation on 'Time Walker' and 'Long Lost Love'. 'Brazil Bound', also of note has an interesting world sound, accented with subtle percussion, a cheerful electric violin and catchy chord changes. James Kennedy continues to create innovative progressive music that blends a timeless classic sound with modern tones. Vagabond builds on the idea of a journeyman perfecting his craft and his music is all the better for it!
